Getting Started

What articles of clothing should I bring?

Bring about five changes of clothing and a pair of comfortable rubber-soled shoes. Wash and label everything with the resident’s name in permanent ink. Please leave valuable jewelry and cash at home.

How is laundry done? Can family take it home?

Either works. Tell the front office at admission if you’d like us to do it, or tell the nursing station if family will take it home. Our machines wash at 180 degrees, so skip anything delicate.

Will my loved one’s room have a television?

We recommend bringing a television from home. Our maintenance director will help you place it safely, according to county fire codes.

Will my loved one have telephone access?

Yes. Every room has a telephone hookup; just ask us about turning on service. You’re also welcome to bring a cell phone.

Do we need to bring medications to the building?

No. Only bring medications from home if the facility asks you to.

Insurance & Billing

How do I pay my bill?

Pay your bill online on our Online Bill Pay page or give us a call.

Will Medicare cover my stay in the facility?

Yes, if you’re admitted with a physician’s order within 30 days of a hospital stay of three nights in a row. Medicare generally pays 100% for days 1 to 20, then a daily co-pay applies through day 100.

Who can I talk to about billing and paperwork?

Our full-time Business Office Manager handles billing questions; call the front desk to make an appointment. Our Admissions Coordinator will walk you through the paperwork at admission.

Healthcare Services

How often will a physician visit?

Physicians usually see residents at admission and about every 30 days after that. Our nurses stay in contact with them in between, and some insurance plans require more frequent visits.

Do I continue to see My Primary Care Physician (PCP)?

No, not while they’re staying with us. Our on-site staff will oversee their care for the length of the stay.

How often will rehab staff work with my loved one?

Therapy usually starts within 24 to 48 hours of admission. Your rehab director will go over the therapy plan designed for your loved one.

What role does Social Services play?

Our Social Services team helps residents and families through transitions, from care planning to discharge. They can also arrange outside services like dental, vision, podiatry, and audiology.

Amenities

How do I find out about activities?

Check out our Facebook. It lists events like birthday parties, movies, musical programs, outings, and religious meetings. Families are always welcome to join in.

Who do I talk to about food preferences?

Our Registered Dietitian or Food Service Director will ask about food preferences at admission. If you’d like something different from a day’s menu, tell the CNA and we’ll do our best.

Is there someone who provides haircuts?

Yes. We have beauty and barber services in the building. The salon is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Contact the salon to set up an appointment.

Is there any private space available to use?

Yes. You can reserve the activities lounge for special events like birthdays, holidays, and meals. Just give us some notice.

Visiting

What are your visiting hours?

Our doors are open to visitors at all times. We just ask that you respect residents’ resting periods.

How many people can visit at one time?

There’s no formal limit. We suggest meeting in our common areas, and keeping it to one to three people at a time in a resident’s room.

Can children visit?

Yes, we encourage it. Please let the charge nurse know about any visitors under the age of 12.

Can I take my loved one home for a visit?

Yes, with a physician’s authorization, which the nursing staff can arrange. The resident or responsible party signs the leave of absence book at the nursing station when leaving and returning.

Can my loved one receive mail?

Yes. Mail is delivered daily, except weekends and holidays. Address it with the resident’s name and room number to 1608 Hillrise Dr., Lexington, KY 40504. You can also send a free ecard online.

Where should I park when I come to visit?

There’s plenty of parking in our lot, with wheelchair access. Please follow posted parking signs and leave the reserved accessible spaces open.

Can I bring in my loved one’s favorite food?

Please check with the nursing staff first, since many residents are on special diets. Any food kept in a resident’s room has to be in a sealed container.

Questions & Concerns

What do we do if we have personnel concerns?

Contact our Social Services department, whether it’s a concern or praise for a staff member. You should feel at ease with the people caring for your loved one, and they’ll help sort it out.

What is an ombudsman?

An ombudsman is a third party, not employed by Pine Meadows, who visits to advocate for residents. They can’t tell the facility what to do, but they can be a voice for a resident with a concern.

How do you protect against COVID-19 and infection?

Our team is trained to care for high-acuity patients and infectious diseases like COVID-19. Our infection prevention nurse keeps us current on prevention guidelines and protective equipment.

Is smoking permitted in the facility?

No. For the safety of residents and staff, Pine Meadows Post Acute is a non-smoking facility.
